obey, own.
still, seizing stills.
life, time, line, frame.
the honest road.
Zaldy Infante is first an observer, storyteller second.
Observation was taught to him by his father at an early age. Observe by seeing and listening, thinking, followed by speaking and acting. You can often find him sitting down somewhere watching the world around him – the strides of passerbys, the interactions between friends and families, the intermingling of strangers, the communion of cultures, and the expressions temporarily or permanently stamped on faces. He wonders about each story.
Stories are as old as time itself. Without it, we may risk losing tradition, identity, language, connection, community, value, memory and above all, a way of life. Stories are shared in many different mediums – speech, word, paint, sculpture, art, song and dance. Oral narratives have their place however the drawback is that it can get lost in translation. The still image is what it is. Have you ever tried to explain something to someone and their response instead was “show me”? That’s the power of the image. Where two or more images are gathered, a story is born. Each story has a plot – the event, characters – the people, and a narrative point of view – the storyteller.
Inquisitiveness and image are his languages. Images can inspire, inform and influence. The scope covers our DNA makeup to the entire universe.
Remember, no story is too small; and an honest story, even a sad one, is worth sharing as much as an uplifting one.
